The company was founded by Walt and Roy Disney in December of 1923. The company lost Walt in 66 and Roy died in 1971. Yet the company is still producing movies and shows. DisneyLand celebrated its 50th a few years ago. The animation has improved greatly and the company continues to make improvements.

On December 15, 1966, Walt Disney died of lung cancer, and Roy Disney took over as chairman, CEO, and president of the company. One of his first acts was to rename Disney World as "Walt Disney World," in honor of his brother and his vision.
The studio released a number of comedies in the late 1960s, including The Love Bug (1968) and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), which starred another young Disney discovery, Kurt Russell.
On October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World opened to the public, with Roy Disney dedicating the facility in person later that month. Two months later, on December 20, 1971, Roy Disney died of a stroke, leaving the company under control of Donn Tatum, Card Walker, and Walt's son-in-law Ron Miller, each trained by Walt and Roy.[13]

Walt Disney was a great film maker and a very imagintive person. Unfortunatly Walt died in 1966. He made hundres of animated and live action movies, Walt also mixed the two types of film to make movie like Mary Poppins and Pete's Dragon. Walt's first movie was Snow White and the Seven Drawfs and the last movie Disney worked on was the Jungle Book. To this day the Disney company has made hundreds of movies. The Disney company also produces t.v. shows, and has several television stations.

After Walt died the company made improvements to animation and paired up with Pixar to make movies such as Finding Nemo and Toy Story. They recently made The Princess and the Frog, the movie was highly rated and received some criticism. The main controversy was that the main characters were African American. Click here to read an article about the controversy. The other problem was that the prince is "white" which caused more problems. Recently Tiana the main character was made an Official Disney Princess. Since then the controversy has died down but when Disney announced the she was an official princess the controversy resurfaced.

On July 8, 2005 Roy E. Disney returned to The Walt Disney Company. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts opened Hong Kong Disneyland on September 12. Walt Disney first 3-D movie was released, Chicken Little.
Disney's relationship with Pixar was wearing thin, Disney began negotiations with leadership of Pixar Animation Studios regarding possible merger. On January 23, 2006, Disney announced that they would purchases Pixar, the deal was finalized on May 5, Ed Catmull and John Lasseter became President of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, and Chief Creative Officer respectively.

Now that Disney owns Pixar they have started several projects, one being Toy Story 3 which is set to release in just a few short weeks. Another possibility has been Monsters INC. 2 Click here to read more.
